New Delhi- On the lines of Amma Canteen, Congress has started Indira Canteen in the name of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In which people will be provided cheaper food. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi inaugurated Indira Canteen in Bangalore.
Let us say that "Amma Canteen" is run in the name of former J. Jayalalitha, Tamil Nadu. These canteens are quite popular among poor and middle class people. Amma canteen provides food to thousands of people at extremely affordable prices every day. Keeping this in mind, Congress has started Indira Canteen for poor and middle class people.
Breakfast in the canteen will only cost Rs 5 and Lunch will cost Rs 10.

A total of 101 canteens will daily serve vegetarian tiffin (breakfast) at Rs 5 per plate and lunch and dinner meals at Rs 10 each in 101 civic wards. Apart more will be opened in the remaining 97 wards from October 2, 2017 to mark the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
Chief Minister who holds the finance portfolio provided Rs. 100 crore in the state budget for this fiscal (2017-18) to run the canteens in all the 198 civic wards on the lines of the popular "Amma" canteens in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
However Rahul Gndhi known for his common mistakes while speaking in public made a error here as well. While giving his short speech congratulating the state government on Indira canteen, Rahul Gandhi said "In a matter of a few months, the people across most cities in Karnataka will be able to eat in these Amma...er...Indira canteens".
