Facts Check Analysis: The message posted by Prashant Lawyer Prashant Patel Umrao on twitter claimed that Radhika Vemula, the mother of Rohith Vemula who committed suicide in 2016, was promished a sum of Rs 20 Lakh by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in exchange for speaking against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However the Indian Union Muslim League gave her a cheque of Rs 2 Lakh and even that bounced.

As per article published in the Indian express (archived here), the family of Dalit student and PhD scholar Rohith Vemula, who committed suicide in January 2016, is upset. They were promised a house by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the family now claims there are no signs of progress and accused the political party of merely using them for political gains. Radhika claimed that one of the two cheques given by the party had bounced, forcing her to make several trips to the bank.

According to a report in The News Minute, days after Rohith committed suicide in his hostel room, the IUML had promised his mother Radhika Rs 20 lakh for building a house for the family, which presently stays in a rented house.

However later as published by the news18, A day after a news report said research scholar Rohith Vemula’s mother had accused the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) of not fulfilling its promise of building a house for the family, Radhika Vemula termed the article “fake”.

Radhika said the article was spreading misinformation. “No cheque bounced, it was rejected due to an error. I have no problem with them [IUML]. They have given me an advance of Rs 5 lakh for land and promised me Rs 10 lakh more after Ramzan. I will campaign for anyone who is against the BJP. The article is spreading wrong things,” she said.

Rohith’s brother also took to Facebook to defend his mother and the IUML. He posted on facebook
