The Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid humbly turned down the honorary doctorate that the Bangalore University wanted to award him. Dravid informed the university in his own way that he wants to "earn a doctorate degree" rather than receiving an honary one.

Most of the present stars these days will never say no to any awards, reorganization and free promotion if they get, however this was the Dravid unique way.

The university authorities also confirmed that sports person had rejected the honorary degree.

The letter issued by the Vice Chancellor stated that Rahul Dravid while thanking to the University had has in all humbly declined to accept the Hon. Degree. He has conveyed that he would try to earn a Doctorate Degree by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field of sport rather than receiving an Honorary Degree, mentioned, Bangalore University vice-chancellor B Thimme Gowda said.

The event was to be held on January 27, 2017, when 52nd annual convocation beguns. A day earlier, Karnataka Governor and Bangalore University chancellor Vajubhai R Vala had sanctioned awarding Dravid.

Earlier, Dravid did not show up at Gulbarga University’s 32nd convocation in 2014 even that time as well he was among 12 personalities shortlisted for an honorary doctorate.
