Fact Check: Will older mobile devices no longer support WhatsApp chat app

News Claim: Recently Multiple websites claimed that many of the WhatsApp users with an older operating system in their mobile devices will no longer be able to use the chat app.    

Viral on Social Media:  Millions of WhatsApp users will be blocked from the app at the start of November 1.

Android and Apple users have been urgently warned to update their software to prevent being locked out from their accounts permanently.

It is mandatory for Users to update their operating systems if they wish to continue using the app after November 1.

News Verification:  It is true that from Nov 1, 2021many of the mobile devices using older operating systems in their devices will no longer be able to use the WhatsApp chat features.

In order to still use WhatsApp, your devices need to be of these versions. As per the present FAQ, about supported Android devices.

  1. Your Android phone  running OS 4.1 and newer
  2. Android phone is able to receive SMS or calls during the verification process
  3. iPhone running iOS 10 and newer
  4. KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
