Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Jiribam-Silchar passenger train remote from Shillong on May 27 2016. This first daily passenger train flagged off today has brought Manipur into the broad gauge passenger railway map of India.
NDTV reported, “The trains include Bhairabi-Silchar and Jiribam-Silchar passenger trains which would bring Mizoram and Manipur on the broad gauge passenger railway map of India, while the Kamakhya-Katra Express would link Assam directly with Jammu and Kashmir.”
