Fact-check: We found that the viral image is not from any Bhoomi Pujan by the former PM. The picture of Rahul Gandhi’s father Rajiv Gandhi was taken in Russia when he was given a copy of Bhagavad Gita in the Russian language from Soviet Hare Krishnas of ISKCON in New Delhi in 1989.

As per hindustantimes article, Rajiv Gandhi government allowed us to lay the foundation stone of the Ram temple adjacent to the disputed site on November 9, 1989, however, Gandhi had stayed away from the foundation laying ceremony in Ayodhya ahead of 1989 Lok Sabha elections

Verdict: The image is of Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi meeting Russian Hare Krishna in New Delhi in 1989 and not attending and not attending Bhoomi Puja.
