Fake news claim: Many customers complained of receiving text messages claiming to be from FedEx.

Hello Janice, your FEDEX package with tracking code GB-6412- is waiting for you to set delivery preferences:

I have recently received 3 deliveries from FedEx. On 2 of those 3 deliveries, I received this text on the same day of the delivery. This text is a hoax! By clicking the link, you're opening yourself up to malicious software/viruses and possible hacking. You can go online to the FedEx website and sign up for text alerts to be notified when packages are to be delivered. But, FedEx will not send you a message with a request like this. If you receive a text similar to this, do not click the link!

If you receive a text from FedEx one that will say delivery Direction Confirmation))) it is a hoax it is a scam and they will get into your phone)))) and wipe out a bunch of information)) and do a bunch of things to you,,, in your accounts we know because it happened to me, just got off the phone with the actual FedEx company they are trying to stop it and do what they can to figure this out,, # bad people # karma will get them.

I JUST HEARD THAT LIL LYIN' CHRIS SHAW HAS HIS PHONES WALLPAPER SET TO A PICTURE OF NANCY PELOSI IN A DHL TSHIRT. THIS KIND OF NONSENSE SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED. NOT ONLY IS HE LYING TO YOU FINE FEDEX PEOPLE ABOUT LOVING TRUMP, but HE IS also LYING ABOUT BEING ADMIN. HE IS A DO NOTHIN' PART TIMER SENT HERE BY AMAZON TO DIVIDE US. OUR FOCUS SHOULD BE ON CHEWY AND NOT POLITICAL MEMES. (poorly crafted I would say) THIS IS THE GREATEST HOAX IN HISTORY BUT THE CHEWY PARTY SUPPORT HAS NEVER BEEN MORE UNIFIED. THANK YOU!

Facts Check Verdict: Spam/Hoax

News Verification: Based on the number of complaints on Social Media, where people have come up and complained about receiving such text messages,  it turns out to be true. Multiple customers have already received text messages, claiming to be from FedEx, mostly these messages tend as “delivery Direction Confirmation”

FedEx, warned it, customers, against clicking such links or paying attention to such messages. FedEx says if you have any suspension do reach them.

Have you received a suspicious text or e-mail that appears to be from us? Suspicious messages should be deleted without being opened and reported to abuse@fedex.com.

What to do?

Suppose you receive a message, you are not expecting at all or least expecting. Suppose you get a message on your phone telling you that FedEx was waiting for delivery instructions for a package, with a link to go enter info. you don't click on the link, cuz you are not expecting anything from FedEx - instead, you go to FedEx and entered the tracking number from the message. Invalid number. Googled the message and sure enough, it is a hoax. Who knows what clicking on the link would have done to my phone, or what info they would have tried to collect from you.

Professional Tip - if any message or email tries to get you to click on a link to enter more info, and you aren't 100% sure of the sender, DO NOT click on links. Instead, go to the source - FedEx, or the Social Security website, or whatever - and check out any notifications to your account or with your tracking numbers there. 

Spam Format: (The scam doesn't even change up the tracking number - it will say something like “Hello, your FEDEX package with tracking code GB-6412-GH83 blah blah blah.")
