Facts Check News: The post shared on the social media claiming that Mamata Banerjee making the statement that Win me 42 seats & I’ll show you how to make the Hindus cry. An article was published on a website bartamanpatrika, that she made this statement during a rally for TMC candidate Apurba Berhampur on April 19. In the original website it is written as Give us 42 seats and we will show you how to shake up Delhi: Mamata, however, this has been altered to be read as “Give me 42 seats & I’ll show you how to make the Hindus cry: Mamata”
In the altered clipping,
- The Bengali word for Delhi ‘দিল্লী’ has been changed with Hindu ‘হিন্দু’
- shake up ‘কাঁপাতে’ has been replaced with cry ‘কাঁদাতে’ in Bengali.
This fake news shared on the social media is photoshopped and the original is from the front page of the Bengali Daily Bartman. It is advisable to think before sharing and believing in such fake clippings.
