News Claim: An image shared by many political leaders and Media houses where the image of Param Vir Chakra was shared as Khel Ratna Award on social media.
Viral message on WhatsApp today & other Social Media: Recently the PM’s office announced the renaming of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to The Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award. However, the medal used in the image turned out to be one used for the Khel Ratna and not for the Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award.

Param Vir Chakra (PVC)
Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is the highest gallantry award for officers and other enlisted personnel of all military branches of India for the highest degree of valour in the presence of the enemy. Introduced on 26th January 1950, this award may be given posthumously.
As per Indian army, Awarded for most conspicuous bravery or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, in the presence of the enemy, whether on land, at sea, or in the air. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in Sports and Games (Hindi pronunciation, formerly known as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in Sports and Games, is the highest sporting honour of the Republic of India.
