In response to the attack the Indian government accused Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) to be involved in the attack. Later in December 2002, four JeM members were caught by Indian authorities. Among them Afzal Guru was found guilty of the incidence and was sentenced to the death.

Public opinion compelled the government to act and enforce the law”. He also said that “India must today, as it did Dec 13, 2001, speak in one voice and give a clear message to the world that India is not a soft state and those who attack India, its sovereignty and its institutions, will be held accountable. Though belated, justice has been done,”
