Facebook, Alina Chakravorty – On 31st jan, a 12 year old girl from Powai in Mumbai was missing from the gate of her school. Her relatives posted the below message on the facebook:
At 8.15 am today our 12 year old daughter Alina Chakravorty, went missing from the gate of her school.(hiranandini foundation school Powai.) She fair, 5ft 5 inches tall and slender. Please help us find her! Please share her picture and look out for herany information however small is valuable. Inform Powai Police station or us at _______.
Pls share as much as possible..Parents need help 🙏🙏
After the above message was posted on social media, it went viral and Alina was found at Chhatrapati Shivagi Terminus ( VT Station ) on Wednesday morning. In a span of 18 hours she was found by Mumbai Police. It shows the power of social media. The message to find her was spread by tag #FindAlina.
Alina’s father was pioneer of social media campaign along with his relatives. They had circulated messages using facebook, whatsapp and twitter to their missing daughter. Photos and messages were send all across networks. Almost 2200 people tweeted #FindAlina.
We have been hearing about several instances where people have been kidnapped using social media. But this incidence is one of the positive news for society.
The reason of why and how she was missing is not known yet. Still, it’s a big relief for the family members that their daughter is back home.
