Police constable posted at Jayalalithaa memorial shoots self dead

India, Tamil Nadu: A 28-year old police constable who was posted on duty at the memorial of late Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in Chennai allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself on Sunday, 4 March 2018. He died on the spot

Arun reportedly joined the state police in 2013. The reason behind Madurai-born constable M Arunraj (28), a native of Madurai suicide has yet not been known, He allegedly took the extreme step early in the morning by shooting himself in his neck using his .303 service rifle, added the police. As per the reports in The Hindu, there were three other constables on duty at the time, all of whom were at each corner of the memorial. He suddenly shot himself at around 4:55 am, the other constables heard the sound of a gunfire. Upon checking, they found Arunraj in a pool of blood and discovered that he had shot himself on his neck.

He was taken to the Royapettah government hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
