New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday alleged that the Aarogya setu app is a state-of-the-art monitoring system, causing serious concerns about privacy and data security.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "” The Arogya Setu app, is a sophisticated surveillance system, outsourced to a Pvt operator, with no institutional oversight - raising serious data security & privacy concerns. Technology can help keep us safe, but fear must not be leveraged to track citizens without their consent.”.

Earlier, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters via video link on a question related to Aarogya Setu', "Many experts have raised the issue of privacy in the context of Aarogya Setu. Congress is considering the subject and will give a holistic response in the next 24 hours. "Significantly, the government has launched the Arogya Setu App to track the corona infection. According to the news, crores of people have downloaded this app.

Aarogya Setu is a mobile application developed by the Government of India to connect essential health services with the people of India in our combined fight against COVID-19. The App is aimed at augmenting the initiatives of the Government of India, particularly the Department of Health, in proactively reaching out to and informing the users of the app regarding risks, best practices, and relevant advisories pertaining to the containment of COVID-19.

On all these allegations, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that all these things are lies. He tweeted and wrote- “Aarogya Setu is a powerful companion which protects people. It has a robust data security architecture.
Those who indulged in surveillance all their lives, won’t know how tech can be leveraged for good!”

He further said, “Aarogya Setu is now being appreciated globally. The App is NOT outsourced to any private operator. Mr. Gandhi really high time that you stop outsourcing your tweets to your cronies who do not understand India.”
