New Delhi, Sushma Swaraj: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday underwent a five hour long kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

The transplant is successfull and Susma Swaraj is in stable condition.

The Kidney transplant started at 8.30 am and ended at around 2.30 pm and there were specialist surgens who performed like AIIMS director MC Misra and Sub-Dean VK Bansal apart from a few other senior doctors, was successful.

Since she do not have a family donor a unrelated donor has donated his kidney.

The possibility of having Swaraj`s daughter as a potential donor was turned down by the doctors as she too was diabetic and suffering from obesity.

Doctors said Swaraj was undergoing dialysis whenever required.

Swaraj, who has been in and out of the hospital for the past few months, was admitted to AIIMS on November 07 with failing kidneys.

64 year old Swaraj was suffering from diabetes for quite a long time. After the kidney failure diagnosis, she was put on maintenance dialysis.

 On November 16, she tweeted that she was admitted to AIIMS because of kidney failure and was undergoing tests for transplantation.

AIIMS was flooded with offers from several people to donate a kidney to the External Affairs Minister. There were offers from different parts of India as well.
