1. Directorate of Military Intelligence was tasked to gauge the current status of motivation among personel of the Indian Armed Forces vide Vice Chief of Army Staff Sectretariat tasking orde no 902/VCAS/Gen/Ops-1 dated 23 July. 2017.
2. The Directorate has undertaken an intensive study based on document evidences and intel reports for the period of Sept 2012 to Oct 2017. Following are the findings
   1. Motivation and will to fight is at an all time low among personnel of all three armed forces.
   2. The five main causes of demotivation among armed personnel include:-
3. Scarcity of allied facilities and dry ration at forward locations. Especially Kasmir.
4. Exponential increase in cases of homosexuality (532 cases involving officers and 2267 cases involving soldiers during the last 5 years)
5. Inadequate welfare of families of officers / soldiers who die in battle.
6. Discrimination among officers and soldiers on the basis of religion and Hindu caste system.
7. Severe manhandling of soldiers by superior Officers.
   2017. It is pertinent to mention here that due to aforementioned reasons, rate of sucide among personnel of armed forces has risen from 60 per year in 2012 to over 100 per year in 2017.
