Viral Message Verification – These messages are in circulation since a long time and it claims the above medicine contains Phenyl Propanol-Amide PPA. Which causes Strokes & Are banned in USA.
First of all it is Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) and not Phenyl Propanol-Amide PPA. This Phenylpropanolamine is present in these common drugs.
It is fact that PPA is no longer sold in USA due to purported increased risk of stroke in younger women. However it is still available in some other countries like Europe. In Canada, it was withdrawn from the market on 31 May 2001.In India human use of PPA and its formulations was banned on 10 February 2011, but the ban was overturned by the judiciary in September 2011.
In Sweden, PPA is still available in prescription decongestants such as Rinexin
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a public health warning in this respect of PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE. On December 22, 2005 the FDA issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (notice) for over-the-counter (OTC) nasal decongestant and weight control products containing phenylpropanolamine preparations.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is taking steps to remove phenylpropanolamine (PPA) from all drug products and has requested that all drug companies discontinue marketing products containing PPA.
