A Photo of Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao is viral on social media claiming to be from Indira Gandhi’s funeral and showing the hands of Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, like offering Namaz. Other leaders are also in the picture like Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi and P Chidambaram.

Is this picture shared on the social media just to fuel the Gandhi’s family Muslim Identity? The picture had been widely shared on the several social media websites and some websites like dainikbharat.xyz (archive version)

On the checking for the facts check and goggling around inistially we found a tweet by Mohsin Dawar ( as per twitter, Member National Assembly NA-48-North Waziristan). Here Mohsin states that “Rajeev Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Narsihma Rao at Bacha Khan's funeral”.  Bacha Khan is also known as freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, He died suffering a stroke six months before his death on January 20, 1988.

Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi became the first Indian leader to visit Pakistan in 28 years today, flying to Peshawar to pay last respects to a leader in the fight to end British colonial rule of the Indian subcontinent four decades ago.

Gandhi spent about two hours in Peshawar, paying his last respects to Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and giving condolences to the dead tribal leader's family. Gandhi then returned to New Delhi to fly to Sweden for a six-nation nuclear disarmament conference.
