England was the wiener of the toss, who decided to bat today and England first day was not that bad as well, a first time century from a new comer and a total of 288/5 is not a bad start on the first days of the fourth test match between India and England..

Highlight of the day was Keaton Jennings made a dream start to his Test career by compiling a fine century on debut after coming in as a mid-series replacement opener for England and said it was a "dream come true" to reach three figures on day one of the fourth Test against India. He came to India only a four days back. He became the 5th England opener and 69th player in Test history to make a century in his first innings. On his coattails, England went to stumps at 288 for 5. Indeed it was Jennings’ relaxed style of batting boosted the visitors’ confidence and carried the day for them.

In Mumbai, England seemed to have learned their lessons from that defeat. This was evident in the manner in which their top order went about appreciating the opportunity of making first use of the batting crease.

In terms of India perspective the first session, when the pitch and new ball were expected to favour the seamers was almost a washout for India.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Jayant Yadav the best bowlers in the Indian team could not do much today.

Cook fell to — Ravinder Jadeja — but there were others of his ilk, especially Moeen Ali, to carry the fight to the Indian camp. England’s tea break score of 196 for two was outstanding to say the least.

Another highlights oif the day was Paul Reiffel who was hit in the back of the head by a gentle throw from deep square leg. He left the field to go to hospital and scans cleared him from any danger.

Todays, Ashwins 4 wicket has already scalped four batsmen and along with the other spinners has given ample proof that England would be hard-pressed batting on a wearing pitch in their second innings.

Day 1 score of 288 for five, India will be looking for early breaks to give a sounding reply in batting. India must be looking for the batting on the day 2 of the test match
