India won the Junior Hockey World Cup 2016, and this is great achievement for the India in the Hockey Sports. India played the final with Belgium and won by 2-1.

This is indias Second Junior World Cup in Hockey. India is the first hosting country which has won the Junior Hockey World Cup. Last time it had won in 2001, now it is the second world cup win after 15 years.

Gurjant Singh from India (eighth minute) and Simranjeet Singh (22nd minute) scored in and late in the last minute a gold was scored from Belgium, but it was too late.

In the year 2001, India had won from Australia in Argentina with a huge difference of 6-1 and won the junior hockey world cup.

However India had also lost from Australia in 1997

In the world cup India had competed three times with Belgium and had lost all the 3 times, India had won all the times and this is the first time when Belgium have gone to finals.

The strategy also yielded India’s both goals. While the first was scored from a diagonal pass from right to the left, the second came in the 22nd minute from India’s movement from left to right. Two reverse flicks, two goals.

Indian drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh received the Fans Choice Player award in the junior hockey World Cup final, while New Zealand won the FairPlay. 16 teams participating in the World Cup in New Zealand was awarded for excellent performance.
