HDFC bank, Mumbai – HDFC is India’s second largest private sector bank. It has come up with a very innovative technology where a humanoid robot, names as Ira will assist customer when they enter bank.

Nitin Chugh ( HDFC bank’s head of Digital Banking) told reporters that HDFC bank will be setting up 15-20 humanoids in the next 18 to 24 months (2 years) in India.
The task for Ira is to play the role of welcome desk by supporting customers to the correct place inside the bank. In future Ira can also be used for handling transactions.

Artificial Intelligence has a lot of scope while using this technology as it can be enhanced with better voice recognition technologies which can be used extensively in core banking software.

Last year HDFC bank had lost almost 4500 employees in December Quarter. Speculations are high that inclusion of Humanoids might lead to more job losses. But Chugh confirmed that they do not have any plans to replace humans with humanoids. They are here just to assist customers.

These humanoids are developed by Kochi based company Asimov Robotics. They are in process of developing much for Ira robots for airports, hospitality industry and retail chains.
