Hyderabad, India: In one of its first kind of taking divorce a US based Techie was booked for taking divorce over whatsapp. A complaint was filled by a 20 year old Mahreen with Moghalpura Police against her husband and in-laws after she was divorced by her US based husband through a WhatsApp message.

As per the allegation by Mahreen she received a whatsapp message from Usman saying triple time talaq.

Usman Qureishi: is a senior analyst at Seven Heaven Medical Agency and he was married Mahreen Noor of Malakpet in 2015. Usman spent some time with his wife after marriage and then left to New York.

Mahreen after that has been staying with her in-laws at Moghupura and as per the complaint in the last week of February; she received a WhatsApp message from Usman saying - Talaq Talaq Talaq. After that the in-laws moved Mahreen out of their house.

Later she filed a police complaint against Usman, his parents, Abdul Hafeez and, Atiya Khulsum and their daughter, Sabina Sultana under IPC section 498-a (subjecting a married woman to cruelty).
This is yet another growing trend of giving out 'talaq' via the internet and social media like whatsapp and facebook, twitter.

Moghalpura Police have registered a case and arrested Hafeez and Atiya- the in laws- and remanded them to jail.

Coming in line Mahreen’s sister-in-law, Heena Fatima, in the similar lines who is married to Usman's elder brother, Syed Fayazuddin, went through a divorce in a similar manner six months ago. This two women’s, staged a protest outside their in-laws house and tried to enter the house but were pushed out by their father-in-law Hafeez.

Many women’s have filed petition’s before the Supreme Court seeking the quashing of the triple talaq practice itself. The Central Government of India has also told the top court that it is against gender injustice and for equality between men and women under the Constitution.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has been defending the practice, saying it is better to divorce a woman than kill her.
