Bangladesh, Dec 29: The Bangladesh government has started to block several websites which are considered pornographic in a bid to protect social decency.

In line with the reports, a set of more than 500 porn material sites to be blacklisted, mostly locally hosted, has been forwarded to internet providers has been sent by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

Net providers and operators have started to abide by the directive.

Minister of Point out for Post and Telecoms Tarana Halim was estimated, as saying, "Initially we have decided to prevent around 500 websites that contain pornography, obscene pictures, and video contents. In the first phase, we will go for preventing the locally hosted sites. "

About 70 to 80 percent of the pornography sites, operated from abroad, would also be blocked in phases, Tarana added.

M A Hakim, president of the Net Service Providers Association Bangladesh, confirmed obtaining the notification from the BTRC and added that steps concluded up had been taken to comply with it.
