Torrent site Kickass, Kat.how: Ever since the US Justice Department caught the owner of the kickass torrent site and main handler of the site, the site was closed for several months and now just before the start of the new year the site is alive once again, but with a new name, kat.how.

When and how the orginal website was was closed

This year, the old website was closed by the US Department of Justice. The alleged owner from Ukraine, Artem Vaulin was arrested from Poland.

As per the reports, now the original team of developers has rebooted the old site in a new Avatar. Kickass was known as the biggest torrent download site in the world. The old team has started putting back their effort to make it again the biggest site of illegal download in the world.

It is still not clear if the American government is going to take any action against this website or not.

Users from across the world were eagerly waiting for the access of the site will be most happy after getting the new site.

Know about the KickassTorrents?

KickassTorrents (commonly abbreviated KAT) was a website that provided a directory for torrent files and magnet links to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing using the BitTorrent protocol. It was founded in 2008 and went offline on 20 July 2016, when the domain was seized by the United States government. The site's proxy servers were shut down by its staff at the same time.

In November 2014, KAT became the most visited BitTorrent directory in the world, overtaking The Pirate Bay, according to the site's Alexa ranking.

Punishment or no Punishment in India

Though downloading data from a torrent site is a crime in India and as per the government on every blocked URL there is warning message.

Like if you visit a similar torrent site, http://www.extratorrent.com/ you will get the below message, “Your requested url has been blocked as per the directions received from Department of Telecommunications,Government of India.”

However there is no such blocked, warning message written on visiting the http://kat.how site.

The government of India, in August had said if someone downloads or views a from torrent site, he/she can be punishable.

Under the Indian Copyright Act of 1957, Sections 63, 63-A, 65 and 65-A, a jail punishment of up to 3 years and 3 lakh fine can be imposed on the person caught viewing or downloading the content from the torrent sites.

In India, most of the URL and website are blocked by the DNS-filtering mechanism.  This means that the Internet service provider’s contains this DNS block list and when someone tries to connect to the site of the Internet service provider's DNS server, the request blocks. If anyone goes ahead and downloads from torrent, then he/she can be punished under the law of country.
