Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Wednesday decided to enforce a complete ban on Indian TV and radion contents from coming Friday, October 21. PEMRA suggested banning airing of Indian content in a tit-for-tat move after Pakistani content was completely banned by India.

Pemra Chairman Absar Alam insisted that as India has banned films starring Pakistani artists, "we will have to do the same".

He also said a crackdown was initiated against illegal Indian Direct-to-Home (DTH) sets on Oct 15, adding that action is being taken against cable operators who do not comply with the instructions.

The authority also decided to cancel one-sided rights given to Indian media by the government of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf in 2006.
