New Delhi, July 25: The Nostalgia of the Doordarshan logo is all about to change, now the state owned broadcaster is planning to change its age old iconic logo and create something new and youthful in order to tap the children of liberalization and hence moving ahead with the current generation and nostalgia.
And for the new logo Doordarshan (DD) has asked for entries from the public, to get a new logo design to improve the look and feel of the network.
DD has been using this present logo since 1959 and it has been a love of millions of Indian, here and everywhere else in the world.
What is needed in the new design?
As per the invitation seeking new designs, the new logo would connect and identify with the younger generation. “The new logo, while having the nostalgia associated with the old DD brand and should also reflect the aspirations of new India,” as said.
Most of the current population in India today is under 30 years of age. These are many who have grown old along with the with Doordarshan.
Vempati said “We have to connect with the youth of India and make brand Doordarshan relevant to them. The logo has to reflect that,”.
Doordarshan is also looking forward to launch new channels for the childrens, youth and music lovers and recently re-introduced some of its old shows from the 1980s on DD National.
DD will take new logo design entries till 13 August and the winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs1 lakh.

Doordarshan (often abbreviated “DD” and दूरदर्शन in Hindi) is the Television Wing of Prasar Bharati, India’s Public Service Broadcaster, which is one of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world.
Doordarshan logo over the years has inspired deep nostalgia of an era when the public broadcaster was the only television channel of the country. With the opening up of Television market to private channels, a whole generation of youth need to connect and identify with DD. In order to engage with India’s youth and to get a mindshare for DD brand within the current generation, DD is seeking a new logo design.
The new logo while recalling the strong nostalgia associated with the DD brand, should reflect the aspirations of new India.
DOORDARSHAN (DD) invites all Indian Nationals to participate in designing a new logo for the flagship Doordarshan Brand. The Logo shall comprise of an attractive design depicting Doordarshan.
