Uttar Pradesh, Mughalsarai: Finally, the government has renamed Mughalsarai railway station to Deen Dayal Upadhyay station on Saturday 14th oct.
The Indian Railways is also making important changes in its system so that passengers do not face any inconvenience after the Mughalsarai railway station name change. It is the fourth busiest railway junction in India.
The proposal to rename the station was sent to the Home Ministry by UP CM Yogi Adityanath in July this year as a mark of respect to Jan Sangh leader Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, who died at this station on February 11, 1968.
Late Upadhyay died at Mughalsarai station while he was travelling in a train. This was the main reason the state had mentioned in its proposal to the Centre.
The station contains the largest railway marshaling yard in Asia, was constructed in 1862 when the East India Railway Company linked Delhi and Howrah by rail.
The Central government cleared the proposal to rename one of the oldest and biggest railway junctions in Uttar Pradesh (UP) In August. Now Deen Dayal Upadhyay station is also amongst the top hundred booking stations of Indian Railways. It has 2 AC, 4 non-AC retiring rooms, and a ten-bedded non-AC dormitory.
12.5 km long and handling around 1, 500 wagons daily Mughalsarai marshalling yard is the largest in Asia. Mughalsarai yard was electrified in 1963-65.
Wagon handling has come down after the railways discontinued piecemeal loading. At its peak, it handled 5,000 wagons a day
