Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh: Eight coaches of Mahakaushal Express derailed early today near Mahoba district of Uttar Prades. The incident occurred at around 2am in the morning. Reports suggest that at least 22 people have been injured, out of which 6 are serious and have been admitted to Mahoba district hospital. The rest received minor injuries and administered first aid.

According to Northern Central Railway’s PRO Manjar Karar, among the coaches that derailed, four are AC and the rest were general compartments. An accident relief train has also been rushed to the site in addition to an accident relief van from Jhansi and Mahoba that has been deployed to tend to injured people, he added. The authorities are yet to ascertain the cause of the mishap.

The train was on its way to Delhi from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Rescue operations are going on under the supervision of senior officials, including the General Manager of North Central Railway M C Chauhan. Railways have started helplines at Jhansi, Gwalior, Banda and Nizamuddin stations to share information to relatives of the passengers.
