The cost per liter of petrol and diesel has been increased by Rs 2.21 and diesel by Rs 1.79 respectively from 17 December. The increased price has been effective since Friday mid night.

Remember, previously oil companies had deferred to increase the price of petrol by Rs 2.26 and Rs 1.78 per liter.

Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL), on the first and 16th of every month decides the price based in, the average price on the international market. The international gasoline (petrol) price increased from $ 57.43 to $ 62.82 and diesel price increased per barrel from $ 60.97 to $ 56.79 a barrel, this was the effect of that price increase. According to officials, after the price increase in the international market and Rs become stronger then dollar from 68.23 to Rs 68.05, has given some relief.

Local tax is not added to this increase, Including VAT, the actual increase in petrol will be Rs 2.90 per liter and diesel to Rs 2.10 a liter. Currenty Petrol in Delhi and diesel Rs 66.10 to Rs 54.57 per liter

Before this in December this month a minor increase of petrol was done it was 13 paisa petrol, whereas 12 paisa diesel price was reduced.
