Tamil Nadu: On 27 July 2017, The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Memorial at Pei Karumbu in Rameswaram Tamil nadu.

The inauguration took place on the moment of second death anniversary of the ex-president Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

He is affectionately known as the 'missile man', he also played an essential role in the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests.  
Kalam passed away while conveying a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong. Even in his final moments, Dr. Kalam was doing what he liked the most teaching.

Prime minister Narender Modi also displayed a statue of Dr. Kalam, present floral honour at his memorial and communicated with his family.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), with which Kalam was associated for many years, had taken up the action to build up the memorial as a gratitude to India's missile man. They have invested around Rs 120 crore for the development of the memorial in record nine-month period.

"Our honourable Prime Minister is paying honour to APJ Abdul Kalam and we are happy that we are able to honour one of the tremendous leaders of the country. We are happy with the way this building has been build up," said Tamil Nadu State BJP President Tamilisai Soundarajan
