New Delhi: CBSE has issued an order to put a POSCO box in its schools across the country. In the letter written to the school principal of the CBSE, It has stated that most students hesitate to complain about their sexual harassment by institution head or any other teacher etc.

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 was formulated in order to effectively address sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children. The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 received the President’s assent on 19th June 2012 and was notified in the Gazette of India on 20th June, 2012.

Not only this, these students often shy away from complaining of sexual harassment to their parents. In its letter sent to the institution principals, the CBSE has directed that POSCO box may be imposed for complaints of any serious problem of students such as sexual harassment etc. In such a situation, if children are unable to report their sexual harassment outside to their parents or guardians, then they can complain through the POSCO Box in the educational institution.

If any student complains about sexual harassment on this POSCO box, without the opening of the name of the student, the National Commission of Child Rights will be hear it direct way. It has been clearly mentioned in the letter that the school administration will give information about the setting up of a POSCO box in CBSE schools during the parents-teacher meeting.

Not only this, the school administration will also have to give notice of POSCO box by pasting it on the notice board. During the prayer meeting, the institution will not only educate the students, but also through the walls of the school and the magazines etc. students will have to given information about the POSCO box.
