Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah declared the name of Bihar Governor Ramnath Kovind and a RSS man as the party's presidential choice candidate after the meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party on Monday (June 19th). After the announcement of Ramnath Kovind's name, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has talked The Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Bihar's CM Nitish Kumar, Andhra Pradesh's CM Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana's CM Chandrashekhar Rao and Tamil Nadu's CM Palani Swami over phone. Telangana CM and TRS leader KC Rao announced the support of BJP Presidential candidate immediately.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted after the announcement of the name of Ramnath Kovind, "I am convinced that Shri Ramnath Kovind will be a wonderful president and will remain strong voice of the poor, deprived and marginalized society."

 BJP President Amit Shah on Monday named Ramnath After the announcement of Kovind's name, he told that allies of BJP have also been informed about making Ramnath Kovind's candidate. And it will be the presidential candidate of the NDA. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told that Amit Shah informed Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray about the presidential candidate. Rout said that the Shiv Sena will decide on the support of the BJP candidate in the next few days.



A few days before the announcement of presidential candidate, BJP Amit Shah had formed a three-member committee of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu, who were handed over the responsibility of negotiating with the opposition parties on the presidential election. Rajnath and Venkaiah had met Congress President Sonia Gandhi but after the meeting, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had said that BJP leaders did not gave suggestion of any name’s, but instead he was asking them about the congress presidential candidate.

According to the news agency ANI, Venkaiah Naidu informed LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi about making Ram Nath Kovind a Presidential candidate. At the same time BJP announced the name of Ramnath Kovind after the name of Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that if the BJP wanted to take the presidential candidate unanimously, it should have told the opposition before the public declaration.

JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav has said that all the opposition parties will meet on June 22 to consider the name of the presidential candidate of the opposition. Sharad Yadav said that the name of the BJP alliance in the opposition meeting will also be considered. In the meeting of the opposition, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, Nitish Kumar JDU, Naveen Patnaik's BJD, Lalu Yadav's RJD, Mayawati's BSP and CPM may be included in the meeting.

The term of the country's current president, Pranab Mukherjee, ends on July 24, 2017. The Election Commission issued notification for the presidential election on June 14. Nomination can be filed for presidential election by 28th June. The name can be withdrawn by 1ST July. There will be a vote for the presidential election on July 17. The results will come on July 20, 2017.
