RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das term extended by 3 years

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government has decided to extend the tenure of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das by 3 years. Now Shaktikanta Das will continue as RBI Governor till December 2024.

The term of Shaktikanta Das was ending on 10 December 2021. According to an official statement, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has extended the reappointment of Shaktikanta Das as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years with effect from 10.12.2021 or until further orders.

This decision of the government to maintain liquidity during the Corona period is considered very important. Actually, the Indian economy has also been hurt due to the Corona epidemic. Who is Shaktikanta Das? Shaktikanta Das became the RBI Governor after the resignation of Urjit Patel. Born on 26 February 1957, Shaktikanta Das has obtained an MA degree in history from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He is an IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre. During his tenure as the Union Economic Affairs Secretary, Shaktikanta Das was considered one of the most powerful men in India. Prior to this, Das has also served as the Economic Affairs Secretary of India, Revenue Secretary of India and Fertilizers Secretary of India.

The government on Friday reappointed Shaktikanta Das as the governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years after December 10, 2021. The Cabinet Committee on Appointments has approved the re-appointment of Das, a former Indian Administrative Service officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, the government said in a statement. He assumed charge as the 25th Governor of RBI with effect from December 12, 2018. Prior to his assignment in RBI, he served as a member of the 15th Finance Commission. Prior to this, he also served as Secretary in the Department of Revenue and Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. He was directly involved in the preparation of 8 Union Budgets. Das has accumulated vast experience in Governance over the last 38 years and has worked in Finance, Taxation, and Industry as well.
