Supreme Court today, Jan. 13: The Supreme Court of India on Friday(1-13-2017) will have many hearing to do and one of the crucial hearing on Friday will be it would hear a plea seeking intervention for postponing the Union Budget to be presented after March once the assembly elections in five states are over.
Earlier last week ML Sharma, who filed the PIL on the issue, mentioned it and sought an urgent hearing which the top court has refused to do so. Sharma has claimed that due to upcoming assembly elections, people will be facing a lot of problem.
The PIL has also requested a direction to strip BJP of its lotus election symbol for allegedly violating the model code of conduct which came into effect after declaration of assembly polls in five states.
A bench of the Supreme Court judges headed by Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar said, "We will hear the matter in due course of time, but not now."
The united opposition lodged a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) on the date for the annual budget being too close to the assembly polls. The government wants early allocation of funds for various schemes from April 1, the beginning of the next financial year.
