Uttarakhand election 2017, Commander's Conference: Listening to the Uttarakhand memorandum submitted by the opposition parties over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Combined Commander's Conference in Dehradun. The Election Commission said that no media briefing or announcement shall be made.

The conference was to be attended by Manohar Parrikar and Narendra Modi which is to be held in 21st January.

 The Commission said regarding holding the Conference at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, following things need to be taken care of

  • The official visit shall not be combined with any public meeting;
  • media interaction
  • No media briefing or press release
  • Announcement in connection with serving soldier or ex-servicemen which may affect the electorate in five poll going states including Uttarakhand shall be made

Last day the CM Harish Rawat told media that the Prime Minister was attempting to cross the Election Commission's, EC directive by using such meetings for political gains.

Rawat was in the view that if such meetings, it should be held in places like Pathankot or Uri. It said conference should not be held during elections as it will have impact on the polls in the state.
