New Delhi: A self-styled Jain Muni Gujarat's Surat has been arrested after a 19-year-old girl accused him of rape.
As per the complaints, Jain Monk Acharya Shantisagar Maharaj, 45 years old was arrested for sexually assaulting the girl who had come to seek his blessings along with her parents. “On October 1, the girl, her brother, and parents had gone to seek the blessings of the Jain guru.
Acharya Shantisagar allegedly convinced them to stay back for the chanting of mantras and he allegedly took the girl to another room, on a pretext of performing puja and raped her,” the police said. According to police sources, a medical examination of the girl has confirmed that she had been raped.
The girl was earliar afraid of reporting the incident that finally confided in her parents and an FIR was filed after 11days. She was sent to the government hospital for medical check-up and rape was confirmed, the police said.
After the arrested of the Acharya, His followers and thousands of people from the Jain community gathered at the Athwa lines police station and alleged that the rape allegation was a ploy to defame the religious leader.
