News Verification: The shared video of the incident is not from West Bengal. It is not after the post-poll violence in West Bengal.

The video is from Uttar Pradesh, it is from Muzaffarnagar. The Muzaffarnagar police tweeted about this news, it said, “थाना भोपा पुलिस द्वारा 07 नामजद व 10-12 अज्ञात अभियुक्तों के विरुद्ध सुसंगत धाराओं में अभियोग पंजीकृत किया गया है। अभियुक्तों की शीघ्र गिरफ्तारी की जाएगी, स्थानीय पुलिस द्वारा अन्य विधिक कार्यवाही की जा रही है।

A case has been registered against 07 named and 10-12 unknown accused under relevant sections by the Bhopa police station. The accused will be arrested soon, other legal action is being taken by the local police.”

The incident is of a lineman from Sikri, Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, as stated by Amar Ujala

Assault by holding a lineman hostage

Muzaffarnagar, Bhopa. The lineman, who had come to fix the fault in village Sikri, was taken hostage and seriously injured by the villagers, while his companions somehow escaped and saved their lives. Dial-112 reached the spot and freed the lineman. A named report has been registered against eight people in the case.

Anuj, a resident of village Sikanderpur in the Bhopa police station area, is posted as a contract lineman at the powerhouse located at village Sikri. The victim gave a complaint and told that on Monday, along with his companions Yogesh resident of Bhokarhedi and Ratu resident of village Ilahabas, he had gone to fix the fault in the line in village Sikri itself. It is alleged that during this time Salman of the village reached there with his brother Ayyaz and asked the lineman to change the cable of the house. On this, the lineman refused to change the cable without the permission of JE. It is alleged that angry with this, both the brothers called their associates Rafi, Khalid, Naaz, Aas Mohammad, Abid and an unknown there and started abusing them.

Yogesh and Rahatu somehow managed to escape, but the accused lineman grabbed Anuj and dragged him inside a house and took him, hostage, there and assaulted him seriously injuring him. His clothes were also torn. The comrades who fled from the spot informed this to Dial-112, on which the police team reached the spot and freed Anuj.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a video of the lineman being dragged into a house by the attackers also went viral on social media. The police have registered a report against all the accused on the basis of the lineman's complaint in the case.
