Fake news claim: An image shared by Mohandas Pai stating that Indira Gandhi Force Sitaram Yechury To Resign During JNU Crisis?

1975, Emergency. Indira Gandhi enters JNU with Delhi Police and beats CPI leader, Sitaram Yechury who was at that time president of the JNU Students' Union and forces him to resign and read an apology letter for protesting against Emergency. This is called Iron Hand dealing with communists. Amit Shah looks saint in front of her.

Facts Check Verdict: False

News Verification: The tweet was shared by Former Infosys CFO TV Mohandas Pai, he even put the question directly to Sitaram Yechury asking if is it true.

As per cpim website, After Emergency, Sitaram Yechury was elected as President of JNU Students' Union thrice during one year (1977-78).

CPI(M)directly denied the question suggesting it to be fake, “Is the Economy in such dire straits that @TVMohandasPai seeks to make a quick buck on the side from BJP IT Cell by pushing #FakeNews? https://twitter.com/TVMohandasPai/status/1215583394500792320 …

The picture is not from JNU, but was taken outside the residence of Indira Gandhi, soon after the emergency wnded in 1977.

As per the article from indiaresists, Sitaram Yechury as a student leader in JNU reading the memorandum presented by students on September 5, 1977 to Indira Gandhi, demanding her resignation as chancellor of the university.  JNU students had already forced Dr. B D Nagchaudhary to resign as Vice-Chancellor,

So the picture is from 1977 from outside the gate of Late Indira Gandhi and not from JNU campus.
