Truth and Verification: This is an old viral message over the government imposing a tax on a school books. The government of India has not made any recent changes in the school books tax system and still no tax is levied on school books.
As per cleartax, no tax is imposed on printed school books.

However, there is a glitch in the above, as per thehindubusinessline. books continue to remain exempt under GST, but inputs such as printing, binding, and royalties to authors now attract tax at 12 percent. Since the publishers don’t get an input tax credit, they now propose to pass it on to customers. So basically, the books become costlier.
Verdict: Partially true, we have to pay for the royalties and other things needed to print a book.
