Jammu and Kashmir: Stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, 12 killed, 13 injured

Katra (Jammu and Kashmir): Twelve people were killed in a stampede on Saturday (January 1) morning at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, but the exact number is yet to be confirmed. There are 13 people injured. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh said, 12 have died and 13 are injured in the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Katra. The incident took place at around 2:45 pm and as per initial reports, an argument broke out, as a result of which people pushed each other, which led to a stampede.

The Block Medical Officer of Community Health Center Dr Gopal Dutt has also said that 12 people have died in the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi temple. One each from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir is also injured. The injured are being rescued and taken to Narayana Hospital. Medical officer Dr Gopal Dutt has said that the total number of injured has also not been confirmed.

The injured have been admitted to the hospital. The rescue operation is on. It is being told that on the first day of the new year, devotees had come to visit Vaishno Mata, during which a stampede broke out in the morning. An official of the police control room of Reasi town said that a stampede has broken out in Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. "Injuries have been reported. Rescue operations are on," the official said.

PM Modi has announced that the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the PMNRF. 50,000 will be given to the injured. Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha have said that an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the kin of those killed in the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan and Rs 2 lakh will be given to the injured.
