New Delhi: Former Congress central minister today urged linking of political donation with Aadhaar in order to bring more transparency in political funding; he also said that corporate should not be in business to fund the political parties.

Tewari said while addressing the 13th annual national conference on electoral and political reforms organized by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Tewari also said that “If there is any donation made it needs to have address. Therefore every donation need to be linked to Aadhaar, irrespective of any donation made. Weather it be 1 Rs in case or Lacks of cash Aadhaar should be linked”.

He said, “There is no point in decreasing the amount of donation from Rs 20,000 to Rs 2000 until Aadhaar is linked”.

Already the Supreme Court have commented on this “Yes, corporate do not have Aadhaar cards. One possibility which is being explored for a long time is with regard to state funding of elections. It is an idea which is worth exploring, but how will one ensure that no private funding takes place”.

Manish further said, the transparency in political funding can be only achieved if political parties comes under the ambit of Right to Information Act (RTI).
