India, Patna: Markandey Katju, The former Supreme Court judge has been booked on charges of sedition after a JD(U) MLC filed a complaint against him over his Facebook post.

In his post, Katju had offered a deal to Pakistan in which he said India will give them Kashmir on the conditions that they accept Bihar with it as well. Another complaint was filed against him on Wednesday in the district court.

According to SHO of Shashtrinagar police station Birendra Pratap, Katju has been booked under Section 124-A (Sedition) and others of the Indian Penal Code. The JD(U) MLC and the spokesperson of Nitish Kumar-led party, Neeraj Kumar had lodged the complaint in the police station last evening.

Meanwhile, lawyer Arvind Kumar has filed a petition in the court of Patna chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Om Prakash against Katju. The complaint seeks registration of a case under sections 124 (A) (sedition), 500 (Punishment for defamation), 501 (Printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory and 505 (Statements conducting to public mischief) of IPC.

The date of hearing of the plea has not been decided yet. Offering a package deal to Pakistan, Katju had written a post on Facebook that infuriated social media users, in particular, the people of Bihar. He had written that Pakistan could get Kashmir if it is ready to take Bihar along.

The chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar slammed Katju for trying to become 'Mai-Baap' of the state. The son of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bihar's deputy chief minister, Tejaswi Prasad Yadav also criticised his remarks. Thereafter, he posted, "I was only joking about Bihar,' but then continued with the jibes today.
