New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal is a active politician who has been constantly taking up public and general issues, he has been criticising people if he finds them not correct. However sometimes and many times it is boomrang back on him. The same thing is happening people are bouncing back on him by filing criminal defamation cases against him.

Below is the list of top defamation cases against kejriwal running in several court.

Case 1: Dr Subhash Chandra, Defamation Case against Kejriwal (2016)

Dr Chandra is a Rajya Sabha member from BJP, He took it on to the Facebook post to state that he has filed the defamation case against Kejriwal in the Patiala House Court.

He added In the facebook post "I don’t understand why does the Delhi Chief Minister fails to understand that he is now on a constitutional position and not just a politician. Defaming with an ulterior motive is unconstitutional".

Case 2: Amit Sibal defamation case against kejriwal (2013)

Amit Sibal had filed the defamation complaint against Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan for alleging conflict of interest on his part. Kejriwal in 2013 had alleged Amit Sibal of conflict of interest for appearing for a telecom firm when his father was IT Minister.

Amit Sibal had filed the defamation complaint against Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan for alleging conflict of interest on his part. The apex court had earlier said that it may remand the matter back to the High Court to decide Kejriwal and others' plea seeking discharge in the case on merit. The Delhi High Court had in its judgement on January 16, 2014 asked the trial court to consider the pleas of Kejriwal and others seeking discharge from the defamation case.

Kejriwal had held a press conference on May 15, 2013, alleging conflict of interest on the part of Sibal, saying he appeared in the court for a telecom firm when his father was the communications minister. Following the accusation, Amit Sibal had filed the defamation complaint. The trial court had issued summonses to them on July 24, 2013.

Case 3: Gadkari defamation case defamation case against kejriwal (2014)

Another was filed against the Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal by Nitin Gadkari. The notice of defamation was framed under Sections 499 (criminal defamation) and 500 (punishment for criminal defamation) of Indian Penal Code. If he is held guilty, he may have to serve 2 years in prison.

Kejriwal was earlier summoned as an accused by the court in the defamation complaint in which Gadkari had alleged that he was defamed by the AAP leader who had included his name in the party's list of "India's most corrupt".

Case 4: Arun Jately Defamation case against Kejriwal

The Delhi high court identified the issues in the civil defamation case filed by Union finance minister Arun Jaitley against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and five AAP leaders on which it will be hearing arguments from both sides.

The court framed the issues despite the Aam Aadmi Party chief and his colleagues denying they had made defamatory statements against the finance minister.

In his suit, Jaitley has sought Rs 10 crore in damages from Kejriwal and the others for their allegations of irregularities and financial bungling in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) when he was its president for 13 years till 2013. The BJP leader, who has denied the charges, has also filed a criminal defamation complaint in a city court on the same matter while the DDCA, too, has moved court against Kejriwal.

Kejriwal’s counsel submitted that whatever was said against Jaitley was in public domain and the CM had not said anything on his own. The other AAP leaders named in the suit are Raghav Chadha, Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Deepak Bajpai.

Case 5: Ex-Political Secretary Pawan Khera (2013)

The fifth defamation case was filed against Kejriwal by then political secretary to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Pawan Khera, for his alleged “derogatory remarks” against power tariff hike during protests in October 2012. A court in Karkardooma complex issued summons to Kejriwal in Janaury 2013.

Case 6: Lawyer Surender Kumar Sharma (2013)

The sixth defamation case was filed by a lawyer Surender Kumar Sharma against Kejriwal and his colleague Manish Sisodia in 2013. Sharma accused the two AAP leaders of approving his name as party candidate and later defaming him and also denying him the ticket.

The Supreme Court had stayed proceedings in all these four cases after Kejriwal filed a plea challenging the constitutional validity of “criminal defamation” in April last year.

Case 7: BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri (2016)

Yet another old case was filed by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri alleging that Kejriwal had made baseless allegations against him. A Patiala House court last month issued summons to Kejriwal asking him to appear in court on May 5, 2016.

Case 8: DDCA VP Chetan Chauhan (2016)

DDCA and its vice-president, Chetan Chauhan, filed a defamation case in February, against Kejriwal and others, accusing them of defaming the association by passing “scandalous” remarks. The court is recording the statement of the complainant.

Case 9: Majithia files defamation against Kejriwal, aides

Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Friday filed a criminal defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal, his close aide and party think tank Ashish Khetan and party’s Punjab affairs incharge Sanjay Singh in a local court here.

Majithia himself filed the case in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Gurpartap Singh under Sections 499, 500 and 501 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Majithia, in his complaint submitted to the court, claimed that the AAP was bent on maligning his image, along with that of his family, without any basis and had been leveling baseless allegations against him.

He said even the Supreme Court had endorsed criminal proceedings against someone who deliberately maligned anyone’s image, and that he is fighting a legal battle against the AAP.

Case 10: Three other pending cases trial court

Apart from this, Kejriwal has three other cases pending in the Patiala House courts while two are pending in the Karkardooma district courts.

Apart from these six cases in which Kejriwal has been summoned by the trial courts, there are three more applications that have alleged defamation and have sought his summoning. These three applications are in "pre-summoning evidence stage" and are being heard in the various district courts of Delhi.

Among these three cases, two have been filed by two Delhi police constables against Kejriwal using a derogatory term against the "men in khaki". The Saket court is recording the statement of complainant witnesses.

DDCA and its vice-president, Chetan Chauhan, filed a defamation case in February, against Kejriwal and others, accusing them of defaming the association by passing "scandalous" remarks. The court is recording the statement of the complainant.
