New Delhi: Rashtrapati Bhavan: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief, on Wednesday led a march to Rashtrapati Bhavan to protest against the problems caused to the People across different places in India soon after the central government's demonetization move.
She led the march along with four other political parties, was joined by several leaders of Shiv Sena, National Conference and Aam Aadmi Party in the protest march. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah of National Conference also joined in the march that started from the Parliament House premises.
These leaders presented a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee over their demands concerning the decision to demonetise 500 and 1,000 rupee notes. around 40 MPs took part in the march.
Shiv Sena which is an ally of BJP in Maharashtra is also against the move. Shiv sena, party MP Arvind Sawant had also a walk to the rashtrapati bhavan.
"We are not against the decision but the way it has been implemented. On that we are supporting Trinamool Congress. The decision should have been implemented with proper preparations," Adsul told IANS.
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Bhagwant Mann, former union minister Sultan Ahmed and Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant were among those who joined the march. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the evening of November 8 announced that notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 will no longer be accepted as legal tenders effective from midnight.
Previously, the modi government had on Nov 8 announced its decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, leading to huge queues outside banks and ATMs to exchange the banned notes, deposit them, or withdraw currency that is legal tender.
