New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today expressed his concerns over the bad Kashmir situation on Monday called for a dialogue within the frameworkof the Constitution to find a permanent solution to the problems of the state.
After The unrest in Jammu and Kashmir continued for the 45thday, The Kashmir valley remained under strict curfew, Prime Minister heald meeting in Delhi with the opposition leaders from the state.
Modi appealed for the restoration of normalcy and asked all parties to work towards it.
In meeting with a delegation of opposition leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister said, There has to be a dialogue and we need to find a permanent and lasting solution to the problem within the framework of the Constitution.
National Conference leader and former Chief Minister of the state Omar Abdullah led the delegation.
Those who lost their lives during recent disturbances arepart of us, our nation. Whether the lives lost are of our youth, security personnel or police, it distresses us, Modi said.
Modi told the delegation that the Union government and the nation stand with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and suggested that all political parties should reach out to the people and convey the same to them.
Later, Omar Abdullah told the media after the meeting that the Prime Minister also acknowledged that "only development can't resolve the problem in Jammu and Kashmir.
"We stressed on the fact that the issue in Jammu and Kashmir is a political issue. If we don't find a political solution to this, then every time we'll repeat the same mistakes.
The delegation warned that the continuing law and order problem and unrest in the state will only further alienate the people.
"We have told the Prime Minister that it is required to understand the problem that has led to the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and find a right solution to the issue," Omar said.
The delegation also submitted to the Prime Minister a memorandum that demanded an immediate ban on the use of pellet guns in the troubled state.
The meeting came a day after the delegation met Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi here on Sunday to discuss ways to contain the prevailing unrest in Kashmir Valley.
The Valley has been crippled by a curfew and protests called by separatists since July 9, a day after the killing of a top militant, Burhan Wani, in a gunfight with the security forces.
At least 68 people have died so far in clashes with the security forces.
