New Delhi: Even after commencement of the goods and services tax (GST), Indian Railway will not be charging any extra fare from the passengers to recover the difference in fares. Those travelers who have already booked reserved tickets, they will not have to pay fee surcharge to the Ticket Examiner (TTE) during the trip.
In order to implement GST as per rules, the Railway Board has issued guidelines to the concerned Regional Offices and Departments. Meetings are also being held in the North-Eastern Railway.
Discussions are on to introduce new rules. From July 1, reservation rates charged with the rate of 5.0 per cent, instead of existing service tax 4.5 after the implementation of GST.
GST will not be implemented in the round figure but will be added to the original rental amount.
If the GST on the total rent is Rs 10.25 then it will be added to the original fare, but the basic fare will be taken in the round figure of five and ten according to the rules.
If the fare of a passenger is Rs 11 or 12 then he will be charged with 10 rupees and 13 or 14 rupees will be charged to 15 rupees.
Relief for ordinary/common travelers, GST will not be levied on the categories (sleeper and general etc.) where currently no service tax is charged.
Apart from this, GST will not be charged on duty passes and concessional tickets. On concessional tickets, the traveler will have to give GST on the basis of rental. After the GST is implemented, the booking of cluster tickets will not be possible.
Travel will not be able to get separate ticket on a single route during travelling. The traveler will have to take single ticket on one route. Not only that, the booking of AC tickets will also be discontinued on General counters.
In the below categories GST will be implemented, that is on AC First Class, Executive Class, AC II tier class, AC III tier Class, S Chair Class, AC Economy Class, First Class, AC special trains and first class coaches and all kinds of first class and AC Coach
