The falling Indian state Kolkata: One state that was historically rich with high intellectuals like Rabindranath Tagore, Subhash Chandra Bose, Amartya Sen, Sourav Ganguly and many others. One state that have added to the freedom movement and maintained the cultural balance despite all the growth. One state which is known as “City of Durga”. It was one and only one - West Bengal. Ironically, it is falling somewhere down the line of its known cultural aura in India and the world.
Question 1: One of the questions we can ask is whether west Bengal is falling to the hands of jihadi outfits and terrorist?
Appeasement: In one of the article published in Hindustan times was that a Kolkata group was denied permission to hold a seminar on Kashmir and Baluchistan refugees. And the reason being cited by the police for not giving the green signal was law and order situation. Hindustan Times reported that there was a foundation which had plans to organize a seminar named as “Suffering of people of Kashmir and Balochistan and what world needs to know”. This event was scheduled to take place at renowned club in Kolkata on January 7. However permission was denied over mention of Kashmiri refuges and their condition during the programme. The participants were Maj Gen (Retired) GD Bakshi, Lt Gen(Retired) Ata Hasnain, Sushil Pandit and Baluchistan expert Tarek Fateh. However the seminar was disallowed due to the Kashmir factor.
Calcutta High court has asked city police commissioner to decide for the rally within 24 hours for the rally being organized by the RSS. The RSS claimed that police authorities had not yet acted on their application that was submitted on December 29.
As per the findings of a cellular jail in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands about 80 percent of the names in the Jail belonged to those people who belonged to the state and city West Bengal and now such a diktats by stopping a event like seminar on Balochistan and RSS . What are we trying to prove, is it to prove we are living in Pakistan. Where are the emotional sentiments of Kolkata, West Bengal gone?
Question 2, Fatwa against the PrimeMinister: A Muslim cleric Maulana Nurur Rehman Barkati, on Saturday 7th Jan, had issued a fatwa offering a reward of Rs 25 lakh to anyone who cut off Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s beard, shave his head and coat him with black ink. Yet no FIR case has been filed against him till date. Looks like the tolerance level in India have gone much higher or else is he getting extra Mamata from the West Bengal Government?
Question 3, Editor of a famous news channel zeenews booked for raising concern about West Bengal: A Non-bailable charges under section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on basis of religion, caste, language, creed or place of birth) was passed in West Bengal government against zee news editor Sudhir Chaudhary. As per our understanding he was just reporting what was happening in Dhulagarh. If people start getting punished for reporting then where lies the democracy in India?
The West Bengal government and media houses in the state believed that reporting on the communal clashes on the state would aggravate the tension and lead to further clashes. Still no much result or out result came out like what happened on the minority Hindu community who were on the response side, unlike other places riots like Muzaffarabad riot when the whole world came to know what is happening, why nothing about west Bengal, why no media or parties ever came up and put a question, raises a big question itself.
Question 4; replacing the word Ram with Rang: A recent article published in dnaindia states the West Bengal textbooks have replaced ‘Ram’ with ‘Rang’ to describe a rainbow in Bengali.
The pictures of this text have created a stir on the social media since, ‘Ramdhenu’ means Ram’s bow, and many are linking this omission to BJP’s rapid rise in Bengal. As per the dnaindia, when they communicated to the officials in west Bengal council for Higher education, they termed this as a routine update and not an attempt to hurt anyone’s political sentiments/
