News Verification: The news viral on Social Media claims that “Industrialist Azim Premji donated Rs 50,000 crore to charity in March 2019. Several prominent individuals and media outlets have shared the year-old news as Premji making a contribution during COVID-19 pandemic.”

Thousands of users on Social Media shared this news of Azim Premji, that he donated over 50,000 as a charity. The news is true, however, it is not the most recent news.

News published in NDTV article dated March 15, 2019, states that “The billionaire chairperson of Wipro Limited has just added to the billions of dollars worth he has already donated by committing 34 percent of shares in his company - worth 7.5 billion dollars or 52,750 crores”. So this is year-old news published in NDTV.
