Bangladesh, Hindus: It has been a common tendency whether it is Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh, where ever Hindus are in minority and it has gone more in decline. There has been a spike on the number of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh; the minority Hindu community is in very fast decline as well.

The expectation of the Hindus living in bangaladesh has increased after Narendra Modi came to power in India.

“The Hindu community, which is the biggest minority community in Bangladesh, is vulnerable in Bangladesh. Fundamentalist and Jamat forces are trying to wipe out Hindus from Bangladesh.

Present Hindus population:

The Present Hindus population in Bangladesh is about 8.2% as per the 2011 census report. In terms of population, Bangladesh is the third largest Hindu state in the world after India and Nepal

Declining Hindu population in Bangladesh region
1941: 28.0
1951: 22.0
1961: 18.5
1974: 13.5
1981: 12.13
1991: 11.62
2001: 9.6

2011: 8.2%

As per quora details, clearly the Hindus population is in decline and a huge one and if this goes on it can be estimated by 2040 the Hindus will be lost from the geographical presence in Bangladesh.

What can India Do?

Can India is really capable of doing something for the Hindus living in Bangladesh? The answer is really not much, however the Hindus living in Bangladesh had quite a high expectation after Narendra Modi came to power.

A 60-year-old Hindu ashram worker, Nityaranjan Pandey, was hacked to death on June 10 by suspected Islamists,  There were other four incident of killing of hindus, prior to this. He was  fourth person from the minority community to be killed in a series of brutal attacks on secular activists in the Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

Until and unless India puts some pressure on Bangladesh, it unlikely the attack on the Hindus is going to decline in Bangladesh.

Is the Muslim factor cause for the decline or the job factor?

“The religious majority and the fundamentalist groups want to eliminate the Hindu community. Since last two years, this religious cleansing has gained further pace. Stability in the Indian subcontinent region can never be achieved with Bangladesh turning into a fundamental state. So if India wants stability in the region it should act to stop the annihilation of minorities in our country,” Mr. Dasgupta, who is also Prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunal, claimed.

Other’s feels it is the biggest driver of immigration of Hindus today are economic reasons. Most of the people in that region are quite poor, and for them, India is closer than Dhaka or Chittagong. So it's easier for them to move to India than to move to Dhaka and look for jobs.

Another factor is the population of Muslim population is increasing in faster way then the Hindus population.  As per report, Most Bengali Muslims in the rural areas had 5-6 children even in the recent past causing the population in this region to increase four times since 1947 further marginalizing the Hindus.

Regular attack and murder of the Hindus

Apart from Nityaranjan Pandey, several hindus were killed in the recent times in the bangaladesh region.  From a liberal professor’s death in Rajshahi city, A hindu tailor was hacked to death in his shop and Bangladesh’s first gay magazine editor was brutally murdered along with a friend in his flat in Dhaka by Islamist forces. Bangladesh has also seen a series of attacks on secular and liberal bloggers in 2015.

Hindus need’s security

Hindu leaders  and Human rights groups in Bangladesh have been demanding more security for religious minorities. Although the minority leaders are expecting Indian government to take up the cause of the minorities in Bangladesh, a senior Bangladesh Minister feels the attack on minorities are actually aimed at creating hurdles in the functioning of the secular and liberal Awami League government.

To save the Hindus population the Indian government must act to stop further decline as on paper the percent is highly grievous.
