Some picture is being shared on how India looks like at the Dipawali is going viral these days. Let us clarify before moving further the Image above is not true image.
The above picture is in circulation ever since November 2012 and every year it is re shared across again and again. The Image above does not show India at the time of Dipawali, instead it is based on data from U.S defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellites, and it’s a color-composite created in 2003 by NOAA scientist Chris Elvidge to highlight population growth over time.
The white areas show city lights that were visible prior to 1992. The blue, green, and red shades indicate city lights that became visible in 1992, 1998, and 2003 respectively.
